Hand built carbon paddles by Evolvent

A very good all-round paddle that suits everyone from beginners to skilled swimmers.
They work well for both competition and training but are probably best suited for slightly shorter competitions where you can keep a little higher frequency.
They have a slight bend that unfolds in the draft. This means that you do not have to angle your wrist when you put the paddle in the outer position, which in turn means that you do not strain your shoulders as much.
May need some getting used to as they are not like regular paddles.

Dimensions: Width x Height cm Weight:
    Large       21,5 × 27    75 gr
    Medium   20,5 × 26    66 gr
    Small       19,5 × 25    60 gr

The paddles come with two sets of silicone straps.
    Black and orange.

    Paddle test December 2024:
Today we were three intermediate swimmers who have all been doing swimrun for years and swam with paddles for as many years and trained together. With us we had the following paddles:
    • Wolfwear Carbon paddles
    • Evolvent Rapelli Edition 3 (the one that arrived a few weeks ago)
    • Evolvent XTD (their biggest and allegedly fastest paddle)
    • Evolvent older version similar in shape to Wolfwear
    • Frank Paddle
We alternated the simpass with short and long intervals and we took turns testing the different paddles to get a feel. A summary of everyone's opinions on Wolfwear's own:
GOOD in a nutshell. Everyone liked the feel of it and thought it was appropriately arched. It feels light and behaves very neutrally in the water, i.e. it doesn't heel in any strange way. Two of us liked the hardness of it, but absolutely do not think it needs to be stiffer while one of us thought it could be a little softer, maybe make it a little thinner. A softer paddle feels a little more gentle on shoulders and is a little more flexible in the water but maybe loses some speed. We all agreed that this is a good paddle to use for both short and long races / training sessions (unlike XTD which probably comes into its own for longer calmer swimming sessions). Personally, I have swum with ARK's plastic paddles for several years and loved them but now feel that I could easily replace them with Wolfwears Carbon paddles. If I compare the sizes, the total surface area is probably about the same, maybe a few square cm extra on the ARKs, but it should be said that the ARK paddle is in size Large and Wolfwears is in Medium.

In terms of speed, XTD is fastest but much harder to crank with, if you can handle several fast intervals, Wolfwears or the older Evolvent paddle is probably best, compared to the ARK paddle, I would probably say that Wolfwear / Evolvent is a few seconds faster at 100m.

Workout: Yesterday I ran a little harder workout focusing on 200 and 100 meter intervals. One of the exercises was without rest in 1500m where we ran hard for 200m, then 100m slower, then 200m hard etc. Switched throughout the session between the Wolfwear paddle and the Ark plastic paddle (not carbon fiber, in size Large). Then ran 10x100m at full speed with short rest. In addition to this, there were some 150-250 meters at medium pace.

Comment about the paddle: In short, I really like the Wolffwear Carbon paddle! The sheet is softer (probably due to the material) and feels a little more gentle, certainly good when you start to get tired as it "gives" a little in the water. But it is completely flat, ie not arched, so requires the swimmer to actively work to angle the paddle correctly in the water to maximize the pressure. The Wolfwear paddle is harder and feels like it gives more pressure as long as you can keep it right in the water. Then I like that the Wolfwear paddle is arched, it gives you a natural rotation in your swim stroke, ie when you put your hand forward / down, the paddle makes a natural calm dive and comes into place to push water backwards, so even though I wrote that it requires more of the swimmer to be held in place laterally, it is very flexible down through the water. The arch is just right, don't make it more arched. My other paddles from Evolvent are more arched and dive a little too fast so you don't really have time for the swim stroke.

In comparison to the Ark paddles in Large, the Wolfwear paddles in medium are kind of the same size, slightly different shape but just laying them against each other you feel they are the same size surface wise. That said, I think the size I'm trying (medium) will suit many swimmers (they will not need larger), at least not on longer competitions where they get tired after a few km of swimming. I know that many good swimmers don't use paddles bigger than Arks large on long races because of this. A weaker swimmer / beginner should strongly consider going for the small size, it will be fast and hard enough.
